All meat that has been raised right includes the necessary step of slaughter. While the process varies by the type of animal and the farm, all of our producers share a common core belief: that by minimizing the stress of the animal throughout its life and during the slaughter process, they are able to ensure both the highest levels of animal welfare and the highest quality of meat.
In addition, most meat we offer are processed under USDA supervision — often in accordance with 3rd party animal welfare and other certifications. The only exception to this is our seafood which falls under FDA regulations and requirements. Animals are typically delivered 12-24 hours prior to slaughter to ensure minimal stress. For beef, our packers generally use captive bolts. For pork, captive bolt or electrical stunning is used.
