The smell alone can make your face scrunch up. Dealing with spoiled food never is pleasant. There are concrete steps to handling raw meat or food. We hope these steps make the situation better and not worse.
Please follow these steps:
>Before handling raw meat (especially meat that has spoiled), make sure you protect your hands with latex gloves.
>Keep the order together and leave it in the packaging.
>Put the package in a large outdoor garbage bag. When you place meat and its packaging in the garbage, immediately tie up the garbage bag and place the bag inside of your outdoor garbage bin; ensure the lid is completely closed. Failing to do so can attract wild animals to check out their next meal. If your next scheduled pickup day isn't for a few days, then we'd suggest keeping the tied-up bag in a garbage can (lid closed tight) and keeping either garage or other sheltered areas.
> Over the Summer, it's recommended to freeze spoiled items until pick up. First, place the order into a large food storage bag or large garbage bag. Seal and place in the freezer until your next scheduled garbage pickup day. > Dispose of the items/package in an outside garbage area(dumpster or your own). If you are rural with critters, we recommend placing the garbage can (lid closed tight) and keeping it in a garage or other sheltered area until the garbage crew comes by. If you have to place outside, we'd suggest setting a heavy brick to keep the animals out until pickup day.
> Wash everything the package came in contact with, toss the gloves, then wash your hands, and you are done.
